The Park
Keoladeo Ghana National Park, popularly known as Bharatpur Bird sanctuary is situated in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. It is one of the best bird sanctuaries of India & famous among the tourists for its outstanding wetland bird reserve. It is a man made wetland which was created under the kind instructions of Maharaja Bharatpur in the 19th century. It is one of the finest bird sanctuaries of Asia. The reserve was declared a national park in the year 1982. In the year 1985, it came in the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. This fabulous bird reserve covers an area of approximately 29 sq- Km.and is just 2 km away from Bharatpur township. It has rich variety of flora & Fauna.
Flora
The flora which is commonly seen in the park is Babul trees, various water plants with plenty of Kadam trees & grasslands. Apart from this the park comprises a diverse variety of flora which are best places for nesting numerous bird species and consists 64 families, 181 genre and 227 subspecies.
Fauna
Besides a large varieties of birds, the park is known for its varied variety of mammals like such as sambar, chital, nilgai (blue bull)and boar.
Avi-fauna
In its 29 sq. km area, the sanctuary nurtures more than 375 species of birds including numerous migratory birds. A huge number of migratory birds include several species of cranes, pelicans, geese, ducks, eagles, larks and hawks to name a few. The migrants are generally come from the Siberia and Central Asia.

Walking and cycling along the forest paths of the park are the best ways to explore its rich bird life.

How to reach there:
By Train:
Bharatpur Railway Station is the nearest railway station at the distance of 6 km. It is well connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Agra, Jaipur by regular train services.
By Air:
Agra Airport is the nearest one at a distance of 56 km.
By Road:
An excellent road network links the town Bharatpur with other major cities of Rajasthan & neighbour states.
Best Season to go:
The period from the month of October to November is the most ideal to visit the park. During this period large number of migratory birds arrive here. One can visit the sanctuary between the month of August to November & can spot several resident birds.
Note: The park is open throughout the year but the best time to visit is between August-November.
Temperature Range: The temperature range may vary due to changing weather.
Temperature in Winters: In winters the temperature may fall down to 10 degree C.
Temperature in Summers: In summers, the usual temperature range is 38 to 45 degree C
Don’t s
Never forget that you are in the forest to visit & observe the animals in their natural habitat & do not disturb them during this effort of your’s.
Avoid carrying cellphones in the park or keep them on Vibrator/Silent mode. Best thing is to switch it off during the course of visit because alien sounds such as those of cellphones may annoy or irritate the wild animals.
Avoid using and leaving behind any combustible substances in the Park.
With an idea to observe wild life in a better way, do not get too close. Do not try to make friends with the wild animals in the Park.
The Forest is home to several wild animals and it is best not to litter around the forest.
Do’s
Always carry insect and mosquito repellent creams, antiseptic creams, band-aids, water bottle, first aid kit, small torch, personal hygiene products, raincoats and the like.
Be prepared with a good camera and stock up on extra film so that you can capture the best wild life movements. But never use harsh flash lights & consult the forest guide before taking pictures or shooting videos.
Use Sunglasses, sunscreens and sun hats as they protect you from the harsh rays of the Sun and prevent sunburns.
It is also advisable to wear comfortable and covered shoes with socks instead of floaters and Fancy foot wears.
Stick to your guide and group all the times.
